Meet the Host

Hi! I’m Wendy Montroy, the host and creator of the Turtle Tea with TTPG podcast. I’m a passionate advocate for turtle conservation and a dedicated member of the Turtle and Tortoise Preservation Group (TTPG).

The idea for this podcast was rattling around in my head for over a year. I was laid off from my job in August 2025 and decided to use the extra time to bring the show to life. I learned audio editing and podcast production along the way. It involved many, many hours of research and deep dives into the world of podcasting. I have to mention two podcasts that were huge inspirations – The Pondcast and CheloniaCast. My goal is to build a free, digital library of species-specific care information and chelonian husbandry advice for enthusiasts worldwide. Every time I talk to another turtle and tortoise keeper I learn something new, so I hope these conversations will help you as well.

I’m proud to be a lifetime TTPG member and was recently appointed to the TTPG Board of Directors. I’m deeply invested in their mission to save endangered turtles and tortoises through captive breeding and education.

I live in North Florida with my husband and son, where we maintain a large menagerie of various turtle and tortoise species. While my oldest tortoise, a 25-year-old Greek Tortoise named Willy, was acquired as a hatchling, my serious interest in turtles and tortoises took off after moving from the DC area to Florida. This allowed us to house more species outdoors. I have previous experience keeping tarantulas, monitor lizards (Yellow Ackies, Dumeril’s, Yellow Monitors) and various other species.

My experience includes keeping and caring for a variety of species, including:

  • Yellow-footed Tortoises
  • Red-footed Tortoises
  • Burmese Star Tortoises
  • Greek Tortoises
  • Spider Tortoises
  • African Helmeted Turtles
  • Timor Snake-Necked Turtles

If you have questions or suggestions for future episodes you can find me on the TTPG Group Discussion or shoot me an email. It also helps us if you leave comments and a review wherever you listen to the podcast.

The real magic is in our guests. To hear from the leading experts in turtle and tortoise conservation and care, be sure to visit the Meet the Guests page to learn more about the passionate people joining the conversation on the show.
